South Africa's government says former president Nelson Mandela was re-admitted to a hospital early Saturday in serious condition for a recurring lung infection.
President Jacob Zuma's office released a statement saying Mr. Mandela's condition worsened overnight and he was taken to a Pretoria hospital. He is listed in "serious but stable" condition.
The 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon was treated for pneumonia during a 10-day hospital stay in April.
Mr. Mandela's history with respiratory problems surfaced during his 27 years in prison during apartheid.
He has been rarely seen in public in recent years, as his health became more fragile.
